Who is Don Daglow?
Don Daglow is the author of more than one hundred video games, as well as a programmer and producer who has played a key role in the development of the gaming industry throughout a career spanning more than five decades. He is a true pioneer in every sense of the word: the creator of Baseball (1971), the first computer baseball game in history, and Dungeon (1975), one of the earliest RPGs ever made. He also laid the foundations for strategy simulations with Utopia (1981), as well as the cult classic Neverwinter Nights, for which he received a prestigious Emmy Award in 2008. Earlier this year, the Game Developers Choice Awards honored Don Daglow with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Today, Daglow leads Sausalito Games and serves as Director of Strategic Partnerships at the renowned American institution, The Strong National Museum of Play. He is the author of numerous successful titles and has also written the acclaimed novel The Fog Seller, along with the non-fiction bestseller Indie Games: From Dream to Delivery, aimed at independent developers.
About the Program
This is a unique opportunity for local developers, students, and gaming enthusiasts to hear firsthand the experiences of a man who has been involved in the video game industry since its pioneering days. Through an informal conversation between the moderator and Don Daglow, the audience will gain insight into the early days of game development, how the industry has evolved over the decades, and what it takes to achieve long-term success in the world of video games. The program is expected to last approximately one hour.
